It’s that time of year again: football season. And with football comes all the great tailgating parties that you grew up loving or have learned to love as an adult. Even if you aren’t a big fan of the sport, tailgating is a great way to socialize and enjoy spending time with your family and friends. And a great way to make your next party more convenient is use a travel trailer. This will give you more space to prep, hang out, and relax while you’re waiting for the game to start. The right amount of planning and prep can stave minor inconveniences and major mishaps. We’ll get into food a little later, but think about some of the other things you’ll need to bring along, like napkins, plates, utensils, and so on. Some things you’ll probably pick up as you go, like making sure to bring extra sunblock, garbage bags, and bottle openers, so keep an ongoing list of things to bring along and how to prepare so you can constantly update it.
You can also send out some social media invitations to your neighbors and friends to try and expand the number of guests that show up and make your tailgating party more lively. Just remember that more people will need more supplies. You’ll also want to make sure you pick the right spot to accommodate all your guests while also having easy access to the main road for any trips to the store you might need to make.
But now for what may be your biggest concern: food. A big party needs lots of food and while your travel trailer will help you spread out a little, you’ll still be limited as far as space goes. The first priority is to aim for more food than you think you’ll need. It’s better to have leftovers to hand out afterwards than to run out halfway through the party.
When it comes to finding space and still keeping things interesting, consider other ways to cook your food. Slow cookers and grills can free up your oven and still provide lots of great dishes. You can also host more of a potluck style party and ask your guests to bring along some of their favorite recipes, which, as an added bonus, can also take some of the hosting burden off of you.
You’re only going to have so much counter space and table space to work with, so you might need to get a little creative with where you store extra food and drink. Luckily coolers are not only great at keeping things cold, but also at keep hot food hot. They’re essentially insulated boxes, so they’re great at maintaining whatever temperature you need to keep them at.
Still looking for that one thing that’ll make you stand out from the other tailgating parties? Take a look around at your travel trailer and look for ways to make the aesthetic more exciting! Put up decorations that show your favorite team so everyone will know who you’re supporting while also making your trailer really pop.
You can also set up an extra television, or use one that your RV already has, to put on another game to help your guests kill a little time. A few board games and a deck of cards can also help keep everyone entertained before the big game.
